There was a cluster of Murton families in the Diss area that included our g-g grandmother Louisa Maria Murton who stated on all her census returns that she was born in Burston, a parish to the north of Diss. When Louisa Maria married John Blake the certificate says that her father was Isaac.
Feb 2019 e-mails Chris-Carolyn: in Diss only cjo cwo DNA; 1sapling large tree, member since 2011
There were a number of Murton families in Diss at that time. I think 1sapling may have just picked people from different fsmilies…. but interesting to see that the probate record attached to their Robert Murton one of his executors is ‘of Burston’ where our Louisa Maria Murton was born, daughter of Isaac. I checked up the ancestry hints for Isaac. A number of trees have him living in Burston and dying in Debenham, where in 1851 census he is living with his daughter Eliza, married to Robert Poole and with son William. These trees also show Louisa Maria dying in Gosport, as our g-g-grandma did, but show no marriages for her!!! Absolute lack of evidence, but my gut feeling is that the below is probably correct and our ancestors. The suggestion is that Eliza and Louisa Maria were half sisters … again no evidence!! I will make some notes on our Murton DNA notes page.

Research: Isaac so Robert and Ann Murton bapt 1770 Burston. Siblings Elizabeth born and buried 1769, Judith who married Thomas Vice in 1788 who had offspring
An Isaac Murton married Kezia Smith 1800 at Fersfield.
PROBLEM Burston baptisms 1813 transcribed on this page but no Murtons!! Louisa Maria could have been baptised at a non-conformist chapel. There were a number in Diss, not in the ones transcribed. Some not transcribed … same website as Burston baptisms above.
In 1841 in Winfarthing, Norfolk, England Kezia was living with butcher Francis Murton aged 70 and Hannah Murton aged 30. Not spouses and daughter as 1844 death cert states Kezia wife of Isaac Murton, farmer. [So Isaac still alive] died in Winfarthing of old age, informant Hannah Murton. Carolyn has pdf of death cert.
CONCLUSION March 2020
No clear lead as to our Murton ancestors. We can say an Isaac Murton had a daughter Eliza who married Robert Poole, but we have no evidence that she was Louisa Maria’s sister and we have no evidence that Louisa Maria was born in Burston. Can we trust that her parents were Isaac and Kezia?
