The only daughter of Caroline and Walter Burge, born May 24th 1910.

Rita, as she was known, was a happy but delicate child, losing much time from school through illness, but soon caught up with children of her own age when she returned.

In 1920 there was a scarlet fever epidemic in the school and little Rita caught it, which caused her death on March 5th 1920. The doctor said the reason she died was that the rash went inward instead of coming out on her body.

In the family group [see Jane Charity’s page and cut-out above] Rita is not looking her usual happy self – the family had just dried her tears as she was so upset that her dear Uncle Jimmy was leaving for France the next day.
