Relationship to the Bartlett family:
Elizabeth Marshall 1810-c1886, daughter of Stawell Marshall 1775-1837 and Mary Gilbert 1777-1854 married James Bartlett 1813-1895, son of Samuel Bartlett 1775-1851 and Lucy Braine c1790-1866.
The Marshall Family:
The Marshall family were based in High Ham area of Somerset during the eighteenth and nineteenth century. Stawell Marshall (or Stowell Marshall) 1775-1837 and his wife Mary Gilbert 1777-1854 were both born in High Ham where they were married in 1797. Soon afterwards they moved to the farm attached to Hazelgrove House in the parish of Queen Camel. Hazelgrove is in the north of the parish only half a mile from Parsonage Farm in South Barrow. In 1837 Stawell died, six years before his daughter Elizabeth married James Bartlett. By the 1851 census widow Mary and three sons had moved to Nether Ham in her native parish of High Ham.
Since 1947 Hazelgrove House has been a Preparatory School. A history of the house can be seen here where the old farm buildings can still be seen close to the rear of the magnificent early Georgian House.
