George Patrick born 19.3.1895. Joined Fort Purbrook, Cosham,
Hants, 15 May 1909. Boy R.F.A. to 34th (?) Battery R.F.A. Left Cosham 6 a.m. with just a ticket and no money or food with all his kit on his back. Was misdirected by a porter at Bala junction and sent to Dolgethly. He walked from Dolgethly to Transfynydd Gamp. He got in camp at 4 a.m – all this at 15!
1914-18 War: D.C.M. M.M, mentioned in despatches 3 times, Hill 60, Belle Warde Farm, the Somme.
1939-45 War: France – mention in despatches. Dunkirk – Middle East – Desert Rats – 8th Army. 1944 – Invasion of France. 1949 retired.
1923 married Sarah Ann Morris (but Tony gives her maiden name as Chaffers aka as Sadie). Son Ronald Eric born 1924.
After retirement lived in Crosby (13, Coronation Drive) until 1953. From then on at 3, Willow Way.
