Bown Family

Elizabeth Talbott

Elizabeth Talbott was born at her parents home in Sparkford, Somerset. On 18 October 1852 in Bath servant Elizabeth Talbott married blacksmith James Bown son of farmer William Bown. Their first offspring, Sarah was born in Sparkford and the next three in Slackstead, a hamlet in the parish of Farley, Hampshire where they lived at the time of the 1861 census. By the 1871 census the family had moved to Michelmersh, 3 miles north of Romsey in Hampshire where the remaining offspring were born, James died and Elizabeth was living with her daughter Beatrice’s family in 1911.

The Bown Family

James Higgins Bown had been born in West Cranmore, Somerset about 10 miles north of the Talbott’s home in Sparkford. James’ parents William Bown and Anne Higgins had been married at Stoke St Michael in 1830. In the 1841 census, a couple of years before William died he was a labourer living in West Cranmore. Ancesty family trees suggest the ancestors of James Higgins Bown lived in the Shepton Mallet area of Somerset.

In 2019 and 2020 using Ancestry DNA two matches with descendants of Beatrice and James Henry Grace were identified. We are in touch with one of the matches.
